Subject: blowdown versus blowback

What is the difference between blowback and blowdown? In class we were told that the blowback on a 100 lb safety valve must be at least 2 lbs.  I though blowdown was the difference in pressure between the mawp and the amount of overpressur through the valve. Kind of confused on this one.

Hi Matt:

I've always heard 'blowdown' and 'blowback' used interchangeably-->referring to the spread between a safety popping and reseating.
